How did it all start?

In 1981 when unemployment was high, we as a Church felt we should be doing something to help in our community.

Christine L, the Minister's wife at that time, and Marjorie W, called a meeting for anyone interested in providing a 'cuppa', coffee, snack or lunch for the unemployed, mums and toddlers, the elderly, the lonely, in fact all who wanted to chat. Quite a number of us turned up to the meeting and before leaving we were all asked to pray about this venture.

We needed financial support from the Church to setup this up, volunteers to run it, folk to bake for us etc. As a result, the fellowship and friendship which has grown through 'Open House' and into our Church is a true witness to the Community of our faith as Christians, that there is a loving God who cares for everyone, and if we meet a need, God is with us.

Without the help of our volunteers, both members and non-members of our Church, 'Open House' could not carrry on.

'Open House' is usually well attended by approximately 70 people. In addition to Open House, there was another luncheon club setup on Mondays called.... the 'Monday Luncheon Club'. The Monday Luncheon Club has now changed it's name to The Wesley Centre Friendly Club.

If you are interested in volunteering, or know of someone who might like to come along, please get in contact.
